Sovereign GT Detector
The Sovereign GT is such a machine. It transmits on 17 different frequencies simultaneously all with the same level of strength. It covers a bandwidth from 1.5 Khz to 25.5 Khz. This ability will allow the machine to respond to a wider range of targets so that the user will make more good finds. The GT stands for Gold and Treasure from what I have understood. It is equipped with the DD circular coil in a 10" or 8" size. This type of coil helps the detector to eliminate even more ground noise or mineralization.
The control box has these knob driven features, Disc., Notch, Volume, Sensitivity, Threshold. There are 4 toggle switches on the front panel also. The first is a 3 position, All Metal, Disc., Iron Mask. The next is a 2 position for the Threshold or Silent Search. The 3rd is across from the mode switch and is a 3 position that sets the machine for Track mode and Fixed mode, then P/Point. And the 4th switch is for noise cancelling. A nice feature is a front mounted speaker and then a headphone jack 1/4" size. There is also a digital meter that the user can add to the GT for even better resolution to determine target type.
The GT comes standard with the straight shaft allowing the control box to be mounted under the forearm. I really like the feel of this type setup and for a tall guy it allows me to get a good reach and keep the search coil as parallel to the ground as possible. Of course headphones are a must for me personally. I have read that some of the Aussies are putting the GT to use in the goldfields of Australia and it costs a lot less than even the SD2100. It is sensitive enough to find some gold nuggets. I believe where the GT really shines is on a saltwater beach. I have read of many reports of how seamless the change between dry sand and wet salty sand actually is. The GT does take some getting used to and one just needs to work with it to maximize it's capabilities. It has good depth and is very sensitive. The Iron Mask function will allow you to use the GT in an iron infested area more easily and pick out those nice old coins that others probably left behind because of the trash
Ground balancing the GT is very easy and as always find an area with no targets to do this important procedure to get the best depth from this machine. Ground balancing is truly the most important adjustment you can make on any machine. The audio response is very different from a standard VLF unit. Again just work with it and it will treat you right. A very nice feature to the GT is a sustaining Threshold pitch, when a target response is received the Threshold will change in pitch to match the target type. So if you have a silver coin it will take the Threshold level to a high pitch and will stay at that level until the next target is encountered. If your in Silent Search mode you will not hear the sustained Threshold tone. The audio tone is what one will use to determine what type of target is being sensed by the GT. So get used to the changing tone of the threshold and you will be a pro in no time. The digital meter if added is a plus.
The GT is also supplied with the Nimh rechargeable battery pack which seems to hold it charge very well. The wall wart does a good job of charging up the pack and comes with the GT. There is a alkaline pack included too if you like just buying batteries and it is nice to have if your Nimh pack goes dead on you in the middle of a hunt. I hope this is a helpful article to many of you that are using the GT for your main detector. I have basically just pointed out the features of the machine, but they are good features that are nice to have in the field.
