Description: The Minelab X-Terra Series of metal detectors are Minelab's newest entry to mid-level metal detectors. In keeping with the "High Technology" theme that is this company, X-Terra is no exception. Utilizing the VFLEX Technology, Minelab has created a new class of single frequency detectors. Light weight, easy to use, and high powered, two of these incredible detectors, are actually able to transmit and receive a different frequency with just the change of a coil. Microprocessors in both the coil and the Control Box allow both to communicate with each other. Depending on your intended target type and size, just pick your coil and frequency.

Great unit
I have owned my X-50 for over a year and I am very pleased with the unit. You can’t beat the good points of the detector · Great quality · Light weight · Large display · Very adjustable, discriminate/notch what ever you want, one button back to all metal · Good battery life · Easy pinpoint, but don’t need it with DD coils · Adjustable volume both speaker and headphones · Change search coil to change frequency The large target ID allows you to see a number for every signal. You can quickly sweep targets again from another angle to see if its consistently “good” and dig just a little trash or push the limit and dig marginal signals on the deepest or trashiest target areas. With the 5x10 coil you can really limit your trash. I have spent hours digging the marginal signals and only found what I expected, trash/very corroded zinc pennies. I am starting to doubt if a marginal signal will ever be a good target. Target ID numbers can be affected slightly with ground balance and choice of coil. The X-50 has four tones, the stronger the signal the louder the tone. When it hits a coin less than 6 inches I know it’s a coin and wonder why I have the volume so loud. Depth varies with the coil you are using and the ground conditions. I have had the best luck with the 10.5” DD coil but the 5x10 DD high frequency is very sensitive to very small objects and nickels and I have dug pennies to 7” with it. Pennies and dimes will come in down to 8” with some moisture in the ground, but after 6” you need to be extra attentive, larger items of course will hit deeper, a zinc mason jar lid at 14”, and iron farm drag point 2”x 5” by a ¼” at 16”. (Special Note): Many machines turn on and start with 3 inches of depth at the lowest sensitivity. The sensitivity on an x-terra starts at 0 inches, so half way up at a setting of 10 you are at 3.5 to 5 inches, at a setting of 17 to 20 you are at 7 to 9 inches. (Have not used on a beach yet) I have been side by side with other detectors and although I here a lot of talk about digging 10 and 12 inches for coins, only top dogs seem deeper. I did a lot of research before buying the detector the funny part is I walked into a store to buy a Whites M6, it sounded like the machine for me; but in the store the X-50 won me over with its weight, features and display advantages. The more I have used it the better it is working for me, I’m digging less trash and I have found enough silver, gold, and copper to keep me happy. As for bad reviews I have seen some and I am not sure why, a quick judgment on most metal detectors is unfair. April 11, 2008Average rating:4.3 based on 3 reviews
