Description: The Garrett Master Hunter has been a main stay for many relic and cache hunters. Extraordinary depth and efficiency are the mark of this machine. Master Hunter handles tough soils and heavy mineralization well, and is capable of finding the deepest of caches. There is an optional Treasure Hound Depth Multiplier search coil available that turns this machine into a virtual two box detector.

Garrett CX +
I have owned my CX+ for 2 years now, so I feel comfortable about commenting on it's performance. I have taken it with me from mountain tops to creek bottoms and everywhere in between. I would say it excells as a relic hunter, as I regularly find coins and personal belongings from the 1700's on up. It has taken all the rough handling I have put it through with flying colors and I wouldn't trade it for any other machine in it's class. I also own the 2 coil set up for it, although I don't use it as much as I hoped I would. With the 2 coil, I can pick up jars of coins at several feet in an air test. The pinpointing feature is very accurate, and with a scaled digging tool, I can insert it to the correct depth, and see the coin when I remove the soil plug. I'm sure there are deeper machines for more money, but I have been very satisfied.Average rating:2.5 based on 2 reviews

Much less than I expected
After many years being away from the hobby I decided to buy a new detector and see if there was anything left worth finding. I did some research in my price range and considering the reputation of Garrett I bought the CX+.It was easy to get used to and I quickly found several coins in my yard so out in the field I went. It did OK coin hunting so I decided to go relic hunting with a friend who is a Whites dealer. We went to the local Civil War battlefield and after a couple hours hunting I had nothing and my friend had several miniballs. What was up I was thinking. On our way back to the car he hit another signal so I asked to check it with the CX+ and nothing. I checked all the settings and everything was where they were supposed to be. He dug the target and out came another mini. I told him to lay it down on the ground and the CX+ picked it up fine with the coil about 7-8" above it. I was puzzled. He then threw it in the hole that was still open and the Garrett passed over it like nothing was there. The hole was only about 5" deep! We started putting dirt back in the hole and not until the mini was 2" away from the coil did the CX+ sound off.
I went home very upset at spending over $500 for a detector that couldn't find a buried miniball but decided at giving it a second chance.
At home I dug a hole, check all the settings on the machine and got the exact same results.
Then I sent an email to Garrett about the problem and although I had received replies to a couple of previous emails this one fell on deaf ears... no reply. I sold the machine, took my losses and am now hunting with a Whites MXT, Garrett Ace 250, and an old Fisher 555D Pro that blows them all away. Sometimes newer isn't better, believe me.
Recently I bought a used Nautilus DMC-2B that shows a LOT of promise. In an air test it detected a penny at 15 inches. If it does anywhere near that good in the real world the Fisher has a hunting companion.
