M-6 Coin and Jewelry King

I hunt mostly city parks, soccer fields, and school playgrounds where I live. No easy beach hunting here in Ohio. Since I have had my M-6 (6 months) I have found over 1000 coins, 9 silver rings, 2 gold rings, and numerous pieces of jewelry. It does just what I want. The tone and volume of the detector change as I near a metal object and that is one of its biggest benefits. Using the 7 tone mode I can listen for those higher silver and copper sounds and narrow in on the good items.

I sweep my detector head at warp speed and it keeps up. Then as I slow, when I hear the sound I am listening for, I pinpoint and it is usually right in the center of my coil. What more could you ask. I checked out higher priced, more complicated detectors and they are nice but have a steep learning curve. I used the M-6 right out of the box. Last week I found an my first old coin, a 1849 Large cent, at 6" in a farmers field. Wooohooo for the M-6. The number readings (VDI numbers) are key to sorting out the good stuff from the trash. My buddy has a Prizm V and always complains how much I find because the numbers tell me more about what is down there. The only drawback: I wish it had a volume control for hunting where kids are around. Sometimes the loud sound attracts unwanted attention. But, I added cheap headphone set, with volume adjust, and that solved the problem.

A great medium priced detector for coin and jewelr

Had this detector for a little over a year and have been very pleased with the purchase. The ease of use is one of it's major attributes. Basically turn on and go. It has enough power to run with the big boys as evidenced by coins I've pulled from hard ground at depths of 8" to 10". The wide selection of accessory coils makes the machine very versatile depending on the environment you are hunting. Auto ground balance works well and it has a fast recovery. You will want to slow down to hear the deep signals though. The 7 tone ID is great and allows the user to focus more on sound rather than constantly having to look at a meter. This greatly increases the "fun factor" for me. Hunts dry beach sand very well but will false in the wet sand if you don't back off the sensitivity and have the proper DD coil. In summary I couldn't be more pleased with the performance of this detector and would highly recommend it to anyone who desires high performance with ease of use.

My favorite trash hunter !!

Opinions on a particular detector can vary from a piece of crap to the best thing since sliced bread and somewhere in the middle is reality. I like to find the strength of a detector and decide if it fills a niche better than one i have and the M6 for me is best for hunting trashy sites.
Don't really care about notching and prefer to use Tone ID and listen to everything. Threshold nulls are useless in my opinion at very trashy sites so silent search is OK for me.
The best thing in my opinion about the M6 is the plethora of accessory coils along with the quick reset recovery speed, tone id, and the Meter which helps when cherry picking or attempting to sort through the mess.
The 6"x10" DD Eclipse is my primary depth and coverage coil and deepest coin has been a wheat penny at 7". My favorite small coils are the 4.5"x7" and 5" EXcelerator's

The little 5" EXcelerator hooked up to an M6 is awesome using tone id and no discrimination. Had some nice coin, jewelry and a few relic finds so far with a well conditioned 1866 2cent piece less than 2" deep being the best so far that many other detectors had to run over. It's hard to explain but avid trash hunters should understand tone variance and that's the strength of the M6 along with the excellent small coil selections.

The M6 would make a very good primary use detector when hunting coins and jewelry and for some relic hunting but love it at trashy sites. I'd rate the M6 at 4.5 because it does lack threshold, true all metal search mode and manual ground balance although the auto GB circuit works excellent. I guess i said my piece and hope others will confirm or dispute my opinions. HH Bill
