1212 X A Great Coin Shooter

I got my first 1212 in 1998, I wanted to buy a second 1210, but no longer available, so I had the 1212 shipped to me. I had a friend that wanted to get into metal detecting and we needed something small to keep in Rescue Truck. We would hunt when not on calls. The first place I got to try it out was a old school property in Western Palm Beach County, about 5 acres of tree out lined property. School was gone and all reminisce of school was gone, just fresh cut grass. After getting Eric settled in on how to use 1210 and best way to dig, I set off hunting under the oak trees. The machine felt good and it's very lite, I used no head phones( needed to listen for calls ). I turned it on and set the sensitivity / trash rejection knob to 4 1/2, beep, beep, beep, and found a dime at about 3"s. In about a 20' area I picked up 14 penny's, 3 nickels, 2 dimes, parts of pens and pencil eraser ends. Every thing was found at depths from 2" to 5". The nice feature of the 1212 is you never have to take your hand off the machine to adjust the knob, just reach up with your thumb and rejecting the trash is really easy. we hunted for about 45 minute's before we had to run a call. we did not get to hunt the rest of the day, but Eric did join the ranks of Treasure Hunters and he did get a 1212. The next day I took the machine down to the beach to see how good it would work and had a decent hour of hunting, nothing spectacular found, about 49 cents in coins, most clad penny's, a spoon, and nail clippers.
I still use no head phones with it as the speaker sounds out the faint signals very well. I now own 2 1212's now(the reason why is another story!) The second 1212 I got a year and a half ago and works great also. The one thing I would like to see Fisher do is come up with a better collapsible stem lock. Being it gets used a lot at the beach, the gasket / o-ring tends to wear out pretty quick, and when you have a stem that keeps moving on you it gets frustrating. If you want a lite competition machine to use at Treasure Hunt Events, I recommend it for being lite to swing all day, really Good pin pointing coil, no head phones needed, and price is Great for those on a budget for their first Metal Detector.
