Excellent for the price
I have had this detector for several years. It is great for starters and the occasional hunter. It has enough bells and whistles to weed out a lot of junk. The things I like:It is light and swings easy.
It has a screen that tells you what you have found that works with good accuracy. Listen to this and remember: there is a learning curve with even the cheapest and the most expensive detector. If I get a signal that hits in a fairly wide area, I know it is not a coin. A coin will show a fairly pinpoint spot on the ground with the Sharp Shooter. Also if the needle is jumping around on a hit say from 25cents to Iron or Foil, it is trash 99 % of the time. The detector does a good job on coin analyses. Just remember to get good you have got to use and explore the functions of any detector and learn what it is saying.

Pioneer 505 (Sharpshooter II)
New to metal detecting, and I live in a newer suburb. My house was built in 1992 (on a lot built from fill), but I have still found over 12 coins in my small back yard (along with a bunch of metal from when the house was built). Bringing it to the local parks (newer) with the kids yields a few newer coins at each outing. I have yet to try it on an older area, but I am definitely encouraged as to what is a coin vs. obvious trash. I'm pretty happy with it, just need a small probe for the digs.Average rating:3.8 based on 4 reviews

great detector
The first time I used this guy I thought there was something wrong with it. I had a load of different targets in a 4 foot square area, I thought this guy was just real noisy. I got hits on the display saying I had a nickel, dime ,penny, aluminum, iron, so I dug up the small area and every thing that it hit on was there. It was not noise it was just doing a good job of finding everything in the ground. I really like it's no motion all metal mode, this detector does alot for the price it is a good beginner detector, contrary to what everyone says metal detectors are very easy to learn and use.Average rating:3.8 based on 4 reviews

Sharp Shooter II
Sharp Shooter II is a very good unit for the money invested for a newcomer in the hobby. I bought mine to test out the metal detecting hobby, used it for 6 months and decided to upgrade. I found lots of good items up to 5" the target ID is limited. It is a very good turn and go machine. Does not do well in wet sand. If your new to this hobby this is great learning machine.Average rating:3.8 based on 4 reviews
